If you haven’t yet experienced the Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk, I’d encourage you to consider it for this Thursday. Our showroom at 314 Occidental Ave will be hosting 5 local artists featuring a range of mediums and styles. Within a three block radius you can find dozens of galleries, studios, and even open air kiosks featuring high quality art.
The Art Walk has now been running for over 30 years, and includes hundreds of venues.
So, stop by, enjoy some wine and cheese–and maybe you’ll find a beautiful piece for your home or for a gift!

Each year Ceramic Tiles of Italy selects three projects–one residential, one commercial, and one institutional–for outstanding use of ceramic tile. The architect of the winning project in each category receives a $5000 cash prize as well as a five day trip to Bologna Italy to attend Cersaie, the annual tile fair.
Submissions are due by February 19th and can feature any project completed in the last five years.
For more information, please see the official website of the tile competition:

We at Statements will also help any of our clients to submit their projects, if so needed. Please contact Ryan for more information: ryan@statementstile.com

Futura Tile from Fap Ceramics
Statements Tile and Fap Ceramics have had a strong partnership over the last few years. When we first took on the FAP Ceramics line, we were taking a risk on a more European look. The colors are contemporary, the shapes are out of the ordinary, and the design is avant garde. The results have been tremendous. Aside from becoming the lead distributor of FAP Ceramics in the US, we have also pushed design boundaries in the Northwest, introducing collections that move us out of our beige blah.
The most recent collection from FAP is called Futura. Undoubtedly the key piece is the 6″x22″ beveled wall tile in a remarkable palette. The collection is currently available by special order from Italy, but we will begin to stock local inventory by spring. We look forward to the response from the design community, as we are certain that Futura will provide a fresh look.
For an excellent review of the collection, please check out Alicita Rodriguez’s article on 3rings.
Seattle Homes and Lifestyles magazine has a beautiful gallery of photos and accompanying article featuring a remodel in the North Beach neighborhood. The project was spearheaded by Rik Adams of Adams Mohler Ghillino Architects, who succeeded at updating a 50’s era home into a gorgeous home for his client. We were thankful to Rik for selecting our tile for the project, including this beautiful installation of Broadway II Bronzo on the bathroom floor.
I picked up a copy of Good magazine last week and came across a notion that strikes me as an excellent description of what Richard Scott and his crew at Status Ceramics are doing in the tile studio. The idea is something called Heirloom Design.
Saul Griffith, who coined the term, describes it thus:
An object with “heirloom design” is something that will not only last through your lifetime and into the next generation, but that you also desire to keep that long because it’s beautiful, functional, and timeless.
At Status, Richard uses the best quality materials, is fastidious about his quality control, and takes great pains to create glazes and forms that are not faddish, but enduring. Moreover, as I always say when someone asks me why I would choose Status over a less expensive tile, Status Ceramics are the kind of item that a consumer selects for posterity. They don’t ever intend to replace it, as they would a carpet choice, or an appliance, or even some pieces of art.
