I have written a number of posts about sealing stone and often emphasize the importance of sealing your stone to ensure it ages gracefully, however when it is sandstone the “gracefull aging” sometimes has a little more to it.
Martin PatricelIi who has been installing tile in Seattle for years gave me a few tips on sealing sandstone for both exterior and interior applications. To his knowledge sandstone actually needs to be pre-sealed—laid out before installation and sealed so as not to be affected by setting materials and grease from handling—and sealed after installation.
Patricelli also warned, some sealers do not do well with UV light, but he believes Aqua Mix Sealer’s Choice/Sealer’s Choice Gold and Mira Seal’s Porous Plus are sealants that can withstand the UV rays in an exterior application.
Just a Tile Chic tip
Kaizen tile and stone has done it again with a really daring and challenging design. Here they have taken the Brazilain Rust slate and cut it into 3″ strips, creating their own offset amazingly awesome mosaic. Good work, it looks great!
When those within the design community are doing good things it should be talked about, so when my personal friend and Statements customer, Faith Sheridan, has made great headway with her blog it should be mentioned. Especially when she has posted about us. So let’s talk a little about Faith Sheridan and why you should read her blog.
Faith Sheridan’s blog provides advice on all things design related for home decorating and remodeling. Not only is the information updated daily, but Sheridan also invites experts from other design resources and fields to post about their forte.
In addition to Sheridan’s daily posts she also writes a monthly newsletter which is also free. The newsletter provides interior design tips, trends and resources to further your design knowledge and answer more questions.
Sheridan has been practicing for over 20 years, and her work has received many awards. She is recognized as one of the top designers in Seattle. She is a past president of the Oregon ASID chapter and was featured as the winning expert on the HGTV hit Designer’s Challenge. She also served as a select member of the Benjamin Moore Residential Design Advisory Council from 2006-2008. She currently is a practicing designer at Faith Sheridan Interior Design firm and has been speaking about interior design and its use of social media for the past year.
Another Installation Spotlight from the only interior designer to be featured in Intallation Spotlight, Bonnie Bagley. Here she has used 10×18 Fusion Brown on the walls of the entire shower. The reflective nature of the Fusion complements the complete glass surround and the lines lend themselves well to the spa-like feel of the room. Thanks Bonnie, it looks awesome.
I was on a website the other day with no connection to the tile industry at all, but they were using this picture as a background image. As a tile guy, I immediately spotted these gorgeous hexagon tiles that appear to be double pressed. Can anyone identify them?
Redoing your countertops? You love the look of slab but want the price tag of tile? What to do?
How about using larger scale tiles? Statements carries a wide range of large scale tiles in various stone and color choices. Not just your basic granite and marble, instead large scale tiles come in everything from sandstone and limestone to antiqued granite.
Each tile is about ?” thick, which is great for a countertop–thicker than tile, but not quite as thick as slab. Most countertops have a depth of 25″, which is perfect because all of these large scale tiles have at least one 25″ side (in depth); some even have a polished edge on the 24″ side so your installer doesn’t have to polish an edge. The tiles also come in sizes like 12.75×25.5, 25.5×36 and 16×32

Intallation spotlight this week comes to us from Riverside Interiors. Here they have taken the 24×24 leather looking tiles by Matouche, in the eleph tabac, and intalled them on a fire place for a very masculine but chic look. Love it!
